In August 1986, in a report sent to the International Atomic Energy Agency, explained the causes of the accident at the Chernobyl plant. This revealed that equipment operated at the plant on Saturday, April 26, 1986 was proposed test with the intention to increase reactor safety. To this should continue to find out how long the turbine power generating steam after the loss of electrical power supply of reactor. The emergency cooling pumps, in case of failure, required a minimum of power to start (until torn diesel generators) and plant technicians did not know whether, once cut the flow of steam, the inertia of turbine pumps could keep working.
technical causes of the accident resulted from the structure covering the reactor 4 exploded due to overheating of the core, dozens of workers died, the fire threw large quantities of radioactive material into the atmosphere and the cloud spread to much of Europe .
At 25 years of that disaster, nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan, after an earthquake and a tsunami triggered an accident last March is considered the second largest in history, but tasks not yet led to control the situation.
The city of Pripyat was founded in 1970 to provide homes for workers in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and their families. Due to its strategic geographic position in a relatively mild climate and fertile soil, the town began to grow, becoming one of the most liveable areas throughout the former USSR. Because of that, the population grew only 16 years more than 40,000 people.
